This urban park crosses the center of Santiago and is an ideal way to walk and get to know the city.

The “Rubén Darío” Forest Park It is a traditional urban park in Santiago, it has about one kilometer long and runs through the entire historic center of the city. It borders Plaza Baquedano to the East and Parque de los Reyes to the West. It owes its name to its resemblance to a forest and to the Nicaraguan poet Rubén Darío, whose time in Chile meant his rise to literary fame.

A little history ...

At the end of the 1901th century, a large vacant lot was created on the southern bank of the Mapocho River, for that reason the idea of ​​creating a promenade and new bridges was thought up to better connect Chimba with the center of Santiago. In 1920, French architect Jorge Dubois, a graduate of the Versailles School of Gardening, was commissioned to design a large park in the style of classic European gardens. The work was completed in 7 and more than XNUMX trees were planted. The characteristic oriental plane trees that are found in a row in the park date back to that time.

What to see in the Forest Park?

Within this large park you can find fountains, children's games and rest areas. allow a rest. Without a doubt, you must know the Monument to Rubén Darío, which gives its name to the place, the Monument to the Writers of Independence, the bust of Christopher Columbus and the famous horse of Fernando Botero, donated by the same artist in 1992. In the middle of the Park you will find the National Museum of Fine Arts, a must-see in Santiago which contains more than 3.000 pieces on display and was declared a Historical Monument of Chile.

It is an ideal park for walking, getting to know the center of Santiago and the Lastarria neighborhood. You can get there by walking from the Parque Metropolitano Funicular stop of our Hop On Hop Off Tourist Bus (approximately 10 minutes) or also by getting off at the Baquedano station of the Santiago Metro (line 1).
