Visit the Palacio de la Moneda and surroundings

The Plaza de la Constitución is the prelude to the Coin Palace, located in the so-called Civic Quarter of Santiago.

Around this square you will find some of the most important buildings and monuments linked to the executive power of the State of Chile. The Palacio de la Moneda is the seat of the Presidency of the Government of Chile. Its construction was carried out between 1784 and 1805, it was designed by the Italian architect Joaquín Toesca and its original destination was to be the Royal Mint, that is the reason for its current name.

In the square you can see two water fountains in the southern part, a commemorative stone of the site where the Carrera family lived and five statues with important national political figures: Diego Portales, Pedro Aguirre Cerda, Jorge Alessandri, Eduardo Frei Montalva and Salvador Allende. .
