Parquemet

It is the green lung of the capital, you can explore it on foot, by bicycle and enjoy an incredible view from the Cable Car.

The largest park in Latin America is in Santiago de Chile and is one of the must-see parks if you are visiting the city. Here you can enjoy the best views of the capital and different attractions that will make you want to return more than once.

A little history ...

The Metropolitan Park is made up of six hills, with El San Cristóbal being one of the most popular. This began to be used in 1903 with the installation of the Mills Astronomical Observatory, currently called Manuel Foster, and one of its curiosities is that it is a “twin” of the Lick Astronomical Observatory of the University of California. But the main icon of the hill, the Sanctuary of the Immaculate Conception, consolidated it as a tourist center when it was inaugurated on April 26, 1908.

Only in 1966, the Santiago Metropolitan Park was officially created by bringing together the services of Cerro San Cristóbal and the National Zoo.

What to see in Parquemet?

In its 722 hectares, you will find attractions such as the Japanese Garden, National Zoo and the popular Sanctuary of the Immaculate Conception. The Park also has beautiful viewpoints, a swimming pool and areas surrounded by nature to have a picnic.

If architecture is your thing, you can delight in famous works by Luciano Kulczewski such as the Pío Nono Station and Cumbre del Funicular and the House of Spiders.

The easiest way to access the top of San Cristóbal Hill, and with the best view, is through the Santiago Cable Car or Panoramic Buses. Along the way you can enjoy incredible panoramic views and when you reach the summit, rest and hydrate yourself with a Chilean classic: the famous mote con huesillo of Cerro San Cristóbal.

The Metropolitan Park is smoke-free, so you can only enter on foot or by bicycle and combine it with the cable car or buses. This way we all take care of the environment and cooperate to protect the abundant variety of native species found in this green lung of Santiago.
